Beat the January Blues

Emma Hogan 8 January 2019

January doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom…

The month of January can leave us feeling a little glum as we struggle through dark winter mornings drives to work and try our best to stick to all those New Year’s Resolutions. However, here at LaunchPanel we’re ever optimistic – it’s time to shake off those January blues!

Here’s some inspiration…

Disrupt your routine

Instead of sticking to your usual routine, why not try something different each day? A change from your everyday routine for just 30 minutes can leave you feeling refreshed and energised.

Scientific research conducted by CCSU suggests that doing something new each day helps immensely with your cognitive development, allowing your brain to practice new skills and improve task performance. Challenge yourself to a new puzzle, learn to cook new recipes or take up a new hobby.

Kick-start your New Year with some retail therapy

New Year is a great time for reinvention whether it’s updating your home, your wardrobe or improving yourself.  What better time to do this than in the January sales?

Department stores such as Debenhams are hammering the competition on prices with their up to 70% Blue Cross sale already live – pick up great discounts on beauty, party-wear and much more.

For home decor, try something new with a visit to Maisons du Monde’s sale for French chic at affordable prices.  They offer a huge range of decorative items as well as must-have furniture that will unleash your inner interior designer.  On more of a budget? Pop down to your local Ikea sale for a stylish Skandi bargain.

Have a favourite store? Odds are, they have a January sale. Get organised and get shopping for 2019 birthdays (or even next Christmas – just 12 months to go!).

Get into action

There are hundreds of ways to get active this year – admittedly joining a gym with “New Year, New You” discounts is always the easy option but many people find it difficult to actually make the most of their membership.

We found a great alternative option in Red January, an initiative launched by the charity Mind which involves joining in with other ‘Redders’ in your local area to participate in  psychical activity. The initiative aims to not only improve physical health but to also improve mental well being. Being a ‘redder’ will mean that you are taking some well needed timeout for yourself each day. It’s a good way to meet new people and a great way to stay engaged.

30 minutes of psychical activity over the next month will help to form healthy habits for the rest of 2019. If you would like to find out more information on how you can participate check out https://www.mind.org.uk/redjanuary.

Treat yourself to January discounts on experiences and restaurants

There’s a long wait til January payday but, although our budgets may be squeezed, offers on experiences and restaurants make these treats a little more affordable.

To escape the dark winter nights get yourself inside and enjoy a 241 Odeon cinema deal or check out the likes of Groupon, LivingSocial or Wowcher voucher sites that can make your budget go even further:

  • Restaurants – treat yourself to a Gusto Restaurant50% of dinner deal.
  • Experience days – discounted spa offers nationwide at SpaBreak.com.
  • Days out – discounted vouchers nationwide for National Trust at Vouchercloud.
  • Skills – online courses in forensics, beauty and many more discounted at Groupon.

Share some January inspiration with us and let us know what you’ll be getting up to on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

Don’t forget, if January payday seems like it’s never going to arrive, join LaunchPanel today to start earning cash rewards!
